General Interview Information
The M.D./Ph.D. Program at Georgetown University coordinates its application review and interviewing with the School of Medicine's M.D. Admissions Office. All applicants to the M.D./Ph.D. Program at Georgetown University are required to submit an application to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, in addition to the AMCAS application which is submitted to the Georgetown University School of Medicine. All completed applications to the M.D./Ph.D. Program are screened by a sub-committee consisting of select members of the M.D./Ph.D. Admissions (Oversight) Committee as well as select members of the School of Medicine Committee on Admissions to ensure that Program prerequisites are satisfied. The names of applicants selected for interview are provided to the School of Medicine Admissions Office, which in turn sends in the mail to these selected applicants formal invitations to interview at Georgetown University. Selected applicants are invited to interview with the M.D./Ph.D. Program over a two-day period. Applicants who accept the invitation to interview are responsible for their own travel costs. The M.D./Ph.D. Program will attempt to lodge applicants for one night with current Georgetown students, or will provide appropriate shared-accomodation hotel lodging. Dinner during the first day, as well as breakfast and lunch during the second day, will be provided by Georgetown University. The M.D./Ph.D. interview consists of several meetings with faculty from the M.D./Ph.D. Admissions (Oversight) Committee; every attempt is made to schedule applicants to meet with faculty in the applicant's general area of research interest. Opportunities are also provided to interact with current M.D./Ph.D. students. Faculty interviewers submit an interview evaluation to the M.D./Ph.D. Admissions (Oversight) Committee for incorporation into the applicant's file. The Committee meets regularly to review and act upon completed applications. Subsequent to this preliminary evaluation and ranking, the most promising applicants may be invited back for a second "recruitment" visit. The M.D./Ph.D. Program will arrange and pay for travel and lodging for applicants who are invited for a second recruitment visit. The purpose of this visit is to allow applicants to obtain a more comprehensive, in-depth view of the dual-degree program at Georgetown University; therefore, the recruitment schedule is tailored to meet the needs of the individual applicant. Final decisions are received separately from the School of Medicine and the M.D./Ph.D. Program. Applicants not accepted by the School of Medicine cannot be considered for the combined-degree program. However, if an applicant is not accepted by the M.D./Ph.D. Program, their application to the M.D. Program at Georgetown University will continue to undergo the regular review process for all M.D. applicants. Admission to the M.D./Ph.D. Program at Georgetown University is conducted in accordance with a strict timeline; therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and schedule interviews in a timely fashion.
