Ongoing Programs

DC Public Schools Seek Volunteers

Georgetown University is excited to offer staff the opportunity to help young students learn to read without ever needing to leave one's desk. If you've always wanted to volunteer in a meaningful and hassle-free way, but could never find the time, this may be the perfect solution for you.

D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) has partnered with Innovations for Learning to allow volunteers to tutor elementary students in reading. Beginning in March, Georgetown staff can tutor first-grade students online. Volunteers must have a computer with Internet connection, a telephone and 30 minutes to spare once a week during DCPS school hours. (Volunteers must be active employees - no students or retirees.)

To indicate your interest, or if you have additional questions, please contact Brenda Atkinson-Willoughby at ba3@georgetown.edu or 202-687-5677. Please join us in this rewarding volunteer effort!  Click here to watch short tutoring videos.
