Description

The Histopathology & Tissue Shared Resource provides comprehensive pathology related diagnostic and laboratory services for both human and animal tissues. Observation of tissues in situ provides valuable information about cell structure, morphologic patterns and protein localization unattainable by other methodology. The primary goal of the HTSR is to provide investigators with a “one stop shop” for all of their tissue and laboratory requirements, thus creating an important bridge in translating research developments from the bench to the bedside. To this effect, the HTSR offers human tissue bank services which provides investigators with a wide array of fresh frozen (in partnership with Indivumed) and paraffin tissues along with assisting investigators with their own specific collection protocols. The histology and immunohistochemistry laboratories offer a full range of cell/tissue processing services along with designing and implementation of investigator specific staining protocols for the assessment of protein expression. The resource also provides high throughput quantitative protein expression and appropriate imaging technology. Finally, the investigators have access to a full range of diagnostic pathology services to assist in the planning and interpretation of morphology and ancillary data pertaining to all human and animal tissues.

The HTSR, under the direction of board certified practicing pathologist Dr. Bhaskar Kallakury, is comprised of 5 areas of research support:
