Information Technology Position Description Templates In order to assist management personnel and information technology staff in preparing accurate and complete Position Descriptions (PDs), generic position description templates for major information technology job groups have been prepared in WordPerfect (6/7/8) format and are available for download to your computer from this webpage. Simply click on the link to the template, click on the "Save File" button, indicate the directory and filename to be used and follow the prompts to download the template. For your convenience, all templates have also been prepared in Adobe PDF format for viewing. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader© to view these forms. These templates are not designed or intended to be complete or comprehensive position descriptions in themselves, but to list typical duties and responsibilities that are representative of many job types. Please consider these templates as potential time savers to help you create PDs. All downloads are formatted in WordPerfect 6/7/8. Database Management Design, develop, and maintain software in support of information technologies. This position installs and maintains highly complex systems software. Tailors software to special needs of the organization and optimizes performance of mission critical systems. Lead Analyst/Programmer Position identifies, deploys, and supports enterprise-wide software infrastructure and applications to support network-based services such as e-mail, authentication, calendaring, electronic directories, etc. The incumbent will possess and maintain expert-level knowledge of products, protocols, initiatives, etc., falling under his domain, and will be nationally recognized by his peers as an expert for at least some aspects of them. Server Systems Administrator A person who manages a multi-user computer system. Responsibilities may include network security, installing new applications, distributing software upgrades, monitoring daily activity, enforcing licensing agreements, developing a storage management program and providing for routine backups. Network Services Administrator Responsible for managing a multi-user data/voice/video system. This position serves as a computer technician in accomplishing the variety of tasks. May install, trouble-shoot and repair new and/or existing PCs. May be involved with the maintenance and administration of both a computer network and connected desktop and laptop computers. User Services Specialist A source of technical support for voice, data and video hardware or software. Can either solve the problem directly or forward the problem to someone else. Opens a service ticket as a means to log in problems and track them until solved. Operations Center Specialist In the Operations Center, these positions will operate and monitor a wide variety of computer systems, including mainframes, mini-computers, servers, telecommunication equipment, personal computers in a multi-processing mode; or, these positions will be responsible for processing production job streams via online and batch processing; functions as a backup for all core business applications; maintains assigned related job and system documentation. Performs scheduled production work and system backups. Technology Engineer Beginning to advanced position which assists or participates in the design, development, or maintenance of the infrastructure (electronic and mechanical) and hardware in support of information technologies. Tasks involved with the design, installation, maintenance, and administration of a computer local area network, including cable, hubs, routers. Senior Technology Engineer Designs and directs comprehensive, integrated GU network architectures, creates policies and procedures in conjunction with UIS groups, vendors, and user committees. He/she is a formal technical expert for all GU network engineering with a special knowledge of how GU?s network resources are applied to its mission and goals. Consultant/Advisor Provides the University community with expertise and guidance in the acquisition, use, development, and access of software and/or hardware to meet the computing needs and goals of that individual, group, or department. Could provide support to areas, groups, or departments with the location of technology resources or technology development specific to stated needs. Design/Development Analyst Analyzes, designs, develops applications and/or systems. Prepares detailed application specifications May develop application architectures, computing platforms, and network configurations. At the high end of this position would design and develop advanced applications, and provide technical leadership in the implementation of complex information systems. The advanced position would design, or be involved in design of overall systems architecture and provide complex specifications. IT Project Management This position is responsible for the implementation coordination/management of information technology projects. A position at one level could coordinate from kickoff through completion a single focus project, such as a voice communication system project. Or a position at the high end could be responsible for managing a strategic, mission critical, complex, large scale project.
Operates system attendant console, paging system console, and all associated telecommunications equipment to provide information and paging services for the University, Hospital, Medical Center, Jesuit Community, and Student Community.
