EVACUATION MAPS
Evacuation maps are posted in all areas of the Center. The signal for a real or a practice evacuation is a bell rung by the Director or University staff. Staff lead children from the building and take them outside, away from the building. Staff take attendance sheets with them to make sure all children are accounted for. They also take emergency backpacks called "go-bags" with them that contain emergency supplies. Evacuation drills are practiced every month. The automatic alarm and central monitoring system would notify the fire department in an actual emergency.
FOR ALL EVACUATIONS, HKLC STAFF WILL DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Pull the fire alarm.
- Evacuate the building.
- Move everyone to the White-Gravenor lawn/patio area (go inside of the main entrance during inclement weather). Verify that all children are accounted for, by using classroom attendance records.
- Do not allow anyone back into the building unless officers from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) have sounded the "ALL CLEAR".
- Provide initial information (return to building or move to holding area - see #6).
- If unable to return to Poulton Hall, move all occupants to the Hall of Athletes in the southwest corner on the main floor of Leavey Center. If unable to move to the western part of campus, move all occupants to the Car Barn located at Prospect and 36th Streets.
- Once again, verify that all children are accounted for, by using classroom attendance records.
- Await the DPS Officer for additional information.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PARENTS
- Call HKLC to listen for a pre-recorded voice mail message. 202-687-7667 This will initially tell you where we are located. If there is a major emergency, we may not have the time to retrieve or respond to messages left on voice mail. Please keep this in mind.
- The G U Command Center will send out an email to all parents as to our location. This is a back up method of communication in the event phone systems are down. Please check your email.
- Voice mail and Email messages will be updated, as more information is available.
- If it is safe to do so, parents may meet us or pick up their children from our evacuation location.
- If necessary, we will make our best attempt to contact parents who have not been informed of the evacuation. We will use contact #'s from children's' files.
