  1. Who can attend ?
    All staff, faculty, and AAPs on the Main Campus, Law Center Campus, and Medical Center Campus are eligible for these programs. Employees of the Georgetown University Medstar Hospital may attend under a special contract arrangement and should talk with their HR Department before registering.

  2. Do I have to already be a manager or supervisor to enroll in the Professional Manager Certificate Program?
    No.  All employees at Georgetown University may enroll in this program.

  3. How long do I have to work at Georgetown University before I start taking classes?
    You may start taking classes at any time. This benefit is available immediately.

  4. How do I register?
    The fastest and most convenient way to register is on our website. You may also download and print the form and fax it to 7-6586.

  5. Who pays for this program?
    Your department is charged for the cost.

  6. Does my manager have to approve my participation?
    Yes, and you need to consult your manager about how many courses you should take each semester. It?s also helpful to talk to your manager about the courses you want to take to get feedback and development advice. Your manager?s perspective can help you make sure that you?ve selected the right courses to increase your effectiveness.

  7. What do I need to do to get the certificate?
    After you enroll, you must complete 60 developmental units (a one-day class equals 6 units) in addition to the following required courses:

    ·     Fundamentals of Leadership,

    ·     Practical and Legal Considerations for Managers,

    ·     The Courageous Follower,

    ·     Human Resources Policies and Procedures,

    ·     Preventing Workplace Harassment

  8. May I take classes if I am not enrolled in the certificate program?
    Yes. All of your developmental units will count toward the certificate if you decide to later enroll in the program.

  9. What do I do if my manager tells me that I cannot attend classes?
    Training is one of your employee benefits. You should ask your manager to contact the Director of Training And Organizational Development to discuss your participation.

  10. Do I have to take personal leave to attend the classes?
    No, you do not. Training is an investment the university makes in your professional development.
  1. Can I check my certificate status?
    Yes. Our website allows you to view your own certificate status by using your NetID and regular email password.

  1. Do I need Operational Training?
    The Operational Training classes provide skills and information specific to jobs at Georgetown. If you are a long-term employee who has never attended these programs, you can update your knowledge and skills. All new employees should attend the courses relevant to their jobs within their first six months of employment.

  1. Can I require that one of my employees attend training?
    Yes. In fact, attending training sessions can be a part of performance evaluation goals. Managers should discuss training and development goals with their employees at least once a year to recommend courses that will enable all employees to increase and improve skills and knowledge.

  2.  Can anyone recommend a new course for consideration?
    We welcome your suggestions! Each evaluation form provided at the end of training sessions asks you to identify topics you would like to know more about.

  3. Are these courses open to the public?
    People who do not work at Georgetown University should visit the web site for the Center for Professional Development to get details about their management certificate offerings.
