Faculty mentor

Students have the option of choosing a faculty mentor from among the members of the field committee. Thereafter, regular conferences with the mentor are a key part of an SFS education.

The faculty mentor:

• reviews course choices in the major 
• suggests possibilities and resources for research
• helps to refine honors proposals and graduate school writing samples
• counsels students on graduate and professional school options
• advises students about other aspects of academic life at Georgetown
• writes letters of recommendation
• introduces students to colleagues with similar intellectual interests
