Detailed information about deadlines, requirements for specific programs, and application procedures is available at the "Application procedures and requirements" page of the Office of Iinternational Programs website.
Your study abroad adviser at OIP will also go over the procedures when you pick up an application.
Please note the following additional requirements for SFS students:
- SFS students must complete the major declaration process, including the sophomore review, before applying to study abroad.
- SFS students may count a maximum of three courses per semester abroad, or five year-long courses, toward the major.
- SFS students must take a full courseload while abroad, even if they do not need full credit.
- SFS students will not receive credit for courses taken in English on direct matriculation programs unless the course is required for the program.
- SFS students will not receive credit for language instruction courses in the language of the host country on direct matriculation programs, unless the course is required for the program.
- SFS students who take foreign language instruction courses on a direct matriculation program (e.g. taking Intermediate Spanish in Germany) must pass out of the equivalent level of language instruction at Georgetown to receive credit.(link to ?credit for language courses? in the UAP)
- SFS students with outstanding incomplete grades will not be permitted to study abroad.
Applications are reviewed by the Deans? Advisory Committee on Overseas Studies, whose members include all the study abroad advisers, the Director of Overseas Studies, the Director of International Programs, and deans from each undergraduate school at Georgetown. Language evaluations are provided by the respective language departments.
