Faculty mentor

Students studying on bench

Each student chooses a primary faculty mentor from among the members of the field committee. Thereafter, regular conferences with the mentor are a key part of an SFS education. The faculty mentor:

  • reviews course choices each semester
  • suggests possibilities and resources for research
  • helps to refine honors proposals, study abroad applications, and graduate school writing samples
  • advises about graduate and professional school options
  • counsels students about all aspects of academic life at Georgetown
  • writes letters of recommendation
  • introduces students to colleagues with similar intellectual interests
