Faculty mentor
Each student chooses a primary faculty mentor from among the members of the field committee. Thereafter, regular conferences with the mentor are a key part of an SFS education. The faculty mentor:
- reviews course choices each semester
- suggests possibilities and resources for research
- helps to refine honors proposals, study abroad applications, and graduate school writing samples
- advises about graduate and professional school options
- counsels students about all aspects of academic life at Georgetown
- writes letters of recommendation
- introduces students to colleagues with similar intellectual interests
