101 Great (and Inexpensive) Dates!  

1. Go to a matinee show at the Dupont Circle Cinema.

2. Go to the Sculpture Garden off the Mall and ice skate; in summer, hang out near the fountain. Either way, get a hot chocolate or smoothie from the café in the garden.

3. Go the Museum of Natural History and see a film in 3D!

4. Go to the Folger Shakespeare Theatre, tickets start at $14.50; 450 7th Street, NW.

5. See an exhibit at the National Gallery of Art, 600 Constitution Ave., NW. Admission to the museum?s main collections is free.  

6. Rent a kayak along the Potomac River, boathouse next to the Harbor, off K Street.  

7. Go out to lunch; the date is just as nice (restaurants usually the same selections) but often less expensive during the day.

8. Go to Rock Creek Park with a picnic and bring along some bread to feed the ducks; for a walk, for a bike ride or run.

9.  Go to Uncommon Grounds or More Uncommon Grounds for a cup of coffee and dessert.

10. Check out the GU calendar, and go to a concert; hear an interesting lecture; or the see the latest theater show at GU.

11. Go to a GU football game.

12. Get a coffee and take a walk in Georgetown.

13. Go play Frisbee!

14. Be a tourist for a day and take the trolley around the city.

15. Volunteer together on a community service project.

16. Go to the Ballet at the Kennedy Center.

17. Go sledding if you can find a good hill. Without a sled, trays work!

18. Free outdoor concerts on the Capital lawn.  

19. Go to an avant guard theatre downtown.

20. If you?re here in the summer, go see some of the foreign films offered during the DC Film Festival.

21. In the spring, the Cherry Blossoms are magnificent! Go to the Mall and walk around the Tidal Basin. Mid March 25 ? April 9.

22. Get half off tickets to see a show at the Kennedy Center.

23. Georgetown Cruises, leaving from the Harbor, near K St.

24. Do some shopping at Pentagon Mall.    

25. Go to an orchard for apple picking and cider in Virginia or Maryland during the fall.

26. Go to the DC Improv, a comedy club; 1140 Connecticut Ave., in Dupont Circle.

27. If you?re here in the summer, go see Shakespeare in Rock Creek Park

28. Read the same book, get together for coffee or dessert and talk/debate it.

29. Take your date to the Cheesecake Factory for dessert.

30. Walk somewhere in the city, neither of you has been, like Chinatown, Adams Morgan or Woodley Park.

31. Learn how to Swing dance.

32. Go to the Mall at night to see the monuments

33. Cook dinner together; go shopping in Chinatown.

34. Take a walking tour of Georgetown.

37. Go to Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture, 901 Fort Place, SE.

38. Visit the American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery, (19th-21st century collection).

39. Go to the Uptown Theatre for a film in Cleveland Park.

40. Go to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (modern and contemporary art).

41. Visit Dumbarton Park in Georgetown and bring a picnic.

42. Go eat at Luna Grill & Diner, 1301 Connecticut Ave, south side of Dupont Circle. It?s fun and funky - a block from the GUTS bus stop.

43. Take the metro to a Nationals game at RFK Stadium.

44. Go bowling. 

45. Go to the National Museum of National History. There is a fantastic dinosaur exhibit!

47. Visit the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Asian and specialized collection of American art; 1050 Independence Ave., SW. The two are connected by an underground exhibition space.

48. If you have access to a car, go hiking nearby.

49. Fly a kite.

50. Buy your date some ice cream and go window shopping

51. Go to the Washington National Zoo at Woodley Park. The baby Panda/tiger cubs are out!

52. Walk along the Mall and visit the Monuments.

53. Go to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, 500 17th Street, NW. Great exhibits!

54. Visit one of the many galleries in DC.

55. Tour the National Cathedral on Wisconsin Avenue. The Washington Monument can lay down the length of it!

56. Visit the Botanical Gardens on the Hill (Capital South metro).

57. See a movie at Lowes Theatre on K Street, or in VCW Alumni Lounge, whatever is playing at ICC.

58. Go to a Jazz club in Georgetown.

59. See what?s happening at George Washington University, Howard or U. of Maryland.

60. Check out the Ford?s Theatre. 

61. Cook dinner (even in your lounge) together.

62. Rent a film and make popcorn.

63. Go to a bookstore, music, or another favorite place ? and appreciate what the other likes.

64. Go to Thomas Sweets for ice cream.

65. Spend Sunday morning at Dupont Circle Farmers Market.

66. The Kennedy Center has a show everyday at 6pm. And it?s FREE!

67. Go play billiards on Prospect Street.

68. Go to the recently opened (and architecturally amazing) Museum of the American Indian (there is a great café).

69. Go to the Love Café for coffee and dessert - north of Dupont on 16th & U Street, NW.

70. Another great place for tea, coffee and dessert is Teaism - north of Dupont off Connecticut and R Street, NW.

71. Luna?s Café (Italian) near Dupont Circle, 1633 P Street, very close to17th, NW. Monday is $4 pasta; Wed and Sunday are half price pizza.

72. Skewers Restaurant (Middle Eastern) is upstairs and on Fridays & Saturdays they have a belly dancer!

73. Adams Morgan, on 18th St., north of Dupont Circle (about a 10-15 minute walk up Connecticut) has about every restaurant you could think of.

74. Tryst, a café, restaurant, bar, 2459 18th St., is extremely cool and has great desserts.

75. The Holocaust Museum is amazing. While probably a bit intense for a first date, it?s an interesting and thoughtful way to spend an afternoon.

76. Lowes Theatre on K St. shows old movies for $5 every Thursday at 8pm.

77. Barnes and Noble on M Street, as well as their nearby locations in Virginia, have some great authors come in to read, sign autographs and usually a reception after.

78. Politics & Prose is a cool bookstore and coffeehouse. Some of their recently invited authors include Salman Rushdie, and Fr. Robert Drinan SJ., (international law professor, here at GU Law). 5015 Connecticut Ave., NW., Van Ness Metro.

79. Go see the new exhibit at the Phillips Collection in Dupont Circle.

80. Be thoughtful on Valentine?s Day.

81. Visit the Observatory.

82. Go to the Smithsonian Women?s Museum.

83. Spend some time in Eastern Market on the weekend.

84. See an independent film at an artsy theatre (Visions on E St.; or, The Avalon, Connecticut Ave., in Chevy Chase, NW.)

85. Meet for coffee at Midnight Mug.

86. Hang out on a Sunday morning at the Georgetown Flea Market (across from Safeway on Wisconsin Ave., in the school parking lot). A lot of antiques and cool stuff.

87. Go to the National Christmas Tree Lighting near the White House.

88. Go to Kramerbooks & Afterwords café for brunch on Sunday morning. Dupont metro stop, 1517 Connecticut Ave., on the north side.

89. Go trick-o-treating on Embassy Row.

90. Meet at a GUGS cookout and hang out on the lawn.

91. Go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum to see the IMAX theatre 3D film.

92. Go listen to jazz in the Sculpture Garden downtown.

93. Go see the FDR Monument. It?s a little off the beaten path downtown, but really great.

94. Get some friends together and sit at the Pope table at Buca di Beppo Restaurant (1825 Connecticut Ave., NW., a few blocks north of Dupont Circle).

95. Visit the National Museum of African Art, 950 Independence Ave., SW., on the Mall.

96. Go see the International Spy Museum, 800 F St., NW., student tickets $13 with ID through the end of December.

97. Check out a lecture or exhibit at the Library of Congress.

98. Check out Arena Stage. A bit pricier, but students get 35% off; 1101 Sixth St., SW.

99. Visit the National Museum of American History, the Behring Center, 14th and Constitution Ave., NW., on the Mall. This is history of science, technology, society and culture in America.

100. If your date likes sports, go watch a game with friends.
