EXTERNSHIP IN CLINICAL/COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY 2009-2010
PROGRAM
The Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) of Georgetown University is accepting applications for its 2009-2010 Externship Program. CAPS accepts up to four externs per year from APA-approved doctoral programs in clinical and counseling psychology in the metropolitan Washington area. The focus of training is on psychotherapy with university students. Externs receive individual supervision, and participate in the CAPS case conference and training seminars on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Eating Disorders, A Developmental Approach to Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Ethics, Ethnocultural Factors in Psychotherapy and Issues in Professional Practice. Externs are expected to spend a minimum of one and one-half days per week at CAPS.
TRAINING STAFF
The Clinical staff consists of psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers who are available for the teaching and supervision of externs. The staff emphasizes a psychodynamic approach to psychotherapy which broadly defined includes psychoanalytic, interpersonal and object relations perspectives.
QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANTS
The externship program accepts applications from doctoral-level students from APA approved clinical and counseling psychology programs. We require externs to be entering their third year of graduate study and to have previous practicum experience. Students entering their second year of graduate study will be considered if they have exceptional prior clinical experience. Students interested in applying for the externship program should send a vita and three letters of reference, including at least one from a current clinical supervisor and one from the Director of Training of the applicant's graduate program to:
