Georgetown University Resources

  • be.georgetown.edu
be.georgetown is a website designed to guide students to make informed health choices during their time at Georgetown. Browse through Body, Mind, and Soul to find issues such as homesickness, sexuality, and exercise. Use the contact and hours information on Practicalities to find the Georgetown health and safety services available to you. In an emergency, you'll find hotline numbers and on-call services under Emergency. There is also a Self-Care Guide -- a resource that helps determine if and when medical treatment is necessary for signs and symptoms of an illness.
  • Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Services (GERMS)
All students are advised to call (202) 687-HELP in case of on-campus medical emergencies. This number will connect you to the Department of Public Safety, the on-campus police, and Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Services (GERMS). GERMS is the University's student-run emergency response medical service. GERMS volunteers are certified Emergency Medical Technicians that are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost.

For mental health emergencies after hours, students should call (202) 444-PAGE at any time to speak with the CAPS/Counseling Center clinician on call. For physical health emergencies after hours, students should call (202) 444-PAGE at any time to speak with the Student Health Center clinician on call.
  • Student Health
The Student Health Center (SHC) is the "doctor's office" on-campus. It is located in Darnall Hall and is run by MedStar Health. The Student Health Center provides a wide range of medical services, including routine medical care, preventative health care, allergy services, and routine and travel related immunizations. Walk-in appointments are available in urgent care situations during hours of operations. All students under the age of 26 are required by the University to furnish proof of certain immunizations (.pdfs) prior to enrollment.
  • Counseling & Psychiatric Services
Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), located in Darnall Hall, is the primary mental health resource on-campus. The staff helps students to develop greater self-understanding, to identify and solve problems, and to improve academic performance.
  • Disability Support Services and Academic Assistance
The Academic Resource Center provides services to students with learning/physical/psychological disabilities or chronic medical illnesses. Students with a documented disability and students who may become eligible while at Georgetown are able to receive necessary accommodations.
  • Student Insurance
Georgetown requires that all full-time students have health insurance. Proof of insurance must be submitted to the Office of Student Insurance. Before declining the University's student health insurance, you may want to make sure that the policy you have provides care while in the Washington, DC area and that the plan covers expenses incurred as a result of extracurricular activities such as club sports.
  • Yates Field House
Yates Field House (the gym on-campus) features state-of-the-art facilities that allow members to achieve their health and fitness goals while utilizing a wide variety of activities. Yates memberships include access to all facilities including the racquetball courts, pool, and aerobic areas. All full-time undergraduate students have automatic access to Yates Field House.
