How to use NAV 7.0

Using NAV 8.0: Scheduling LiveUpdates

When you run a LiveUpdate, NAV contacts the manufacturer's website and looks for new information. The kind of information that the program looks for depends on what type of LiveUpdate you run. The one that you'll run most often updates your virus definitions.  NAV is pre-set to check for new definitions once a month, but you may want to change this so you update your virus definitions every week. You can check for all other product updates on a monthly basis. Follow the instructions below to make these changes.

Once they've been scheduled, you can edit or delete LiveUpdate tasks.

You may wish to scan your computer's files. You can also schedule scans to run automatically.

Scheduling LiveUpdates

  1. Click on Go (at the top of your screen), then click on Applications.
  1. This will open the Applications folder.
  1. Double click on the Norton AntiVirus icon.
  1. This will start the Norton AntiVirus program.

  1. Click on the Scheduler button.

  1. This will open
    the Norton Scheduler panel.
  1. Click on the LiveUpdate icon.
  1. Give your update task a name.
  1. Under Choose a product to update:, click on the up/down arrows and select the type of information you want to download (for example, virus definitions).
  1. Click on the up/down arrows beside Set a Frequency, then click daily.
  1. Click on the up/down arrows beside Set the time, and select an appropriate time to run your LiveUpdate (make sure you choose a time when your computer will be on, but you won't be too busy).
  1. When you've made all your choices, click on the red dot to close the panel.
  1. You'll be asked if you want to save your changes. Click on the Save button.
  1. This will return you to the Scheduler panel. If you followed the instructions above, you will now have two LiveUpdate tasks (one weekly and one monthly).
  • If you want to modify the monthly update (so it will look for all product updates instead of just virus definitions), see Editing a scheduled LiveUpdate.
  • If you don't want to make any more changes, click on the red dot to close the panel.
